This Week in FUN - hibernatin'

Wanted to update everybody regarding This Week in FUN, the weekly show I do with my BFF Martin Sargent on the TWiT network each week. If you’re a fan of the show, the following probably isn’t going to make you happy, but if you hate us and think we’re the devil’s spawn (thx for the emails, btw, I absolutely adore being compared to Satan, best compliment ever), this will probably make your night:

TWiF is going on hiatus!

Here’s why - as many of you already know, Martin started his new rockstar job this week, which is awesome… and has also severely limited his free time to do things such as shooting TWiF on Friday afternoons. It’s totally probable that in time we’ll figure out how to carve out the necessary amount of time each week to restart the show, but at this point, we can’t say exactly when.

We’ve also been contemplating the future of TWiF with Leo and his team ever since the show had to switch gears in October, when I lost my driver’s license and was unable to drive to Petaluma to shoot the show in person. Netcams are great and all, but the overall quality of the show has suffered, and as a result, so have our viewership numbers. Because of the way TWiT is set up and because my hands are tied, it makes sense not to continue with a less than stellar product, for us and for you.

So we’re going dark for a bit. Hopefully we’ll resurface sooner than later. I love you all and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your support. If I could bake a cake that showed how much I appreciate your support, it would be the BIGGEST CAKE EVER, SO BIG OMG SO BIG. SO. BIG.

I hate saying this, but… stay tuned. If you have any great ideas or wisdom to share with us in the meantime, here’s the place. God save the Queen.

Sarah- I'm sorry. I think it's my fault. Everything I watch you on goes away, Tech TV, What Sarah Wore, The Gazette, Pop Siren, and now TWIF. I'll try my best not to watch you on Current - I don't want to cause you anymore trouble.

What am I to do now, go back to defraggin'? What about a bi-weekly show? Anyhow, it was Fun while it lasted, I hope to see it back some day.

January 22, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterSilentKV

Can't say I'm heartbroken. (Haters get ready.) The first few shows were pretty good. That said, between the double, never good Skype connections, the complete lack of show prep, this won't be that great of a loss.

Marty has wheels, you could have gotten to the cottage, or at least gotten to facilities in SF with decent connectivity. While I'm thrilled Marty now has a job and you have recovered from a very serious illness, I completely agree with a hiatus until you can bring the show back with the level of professionalism with which it began and should be the standard for all TWiT netcasts.

When both of you are in a place where you can do more than spend 2/3 of the time trying to reconnect, TWiF won't be missed all that much by this viewer.

Awww that makes me sad. I'm gonna miss you guys hope you guys comw back soon!

Hey everyone, just wanted to chime back in to say how much I appreciate all the nice comments you've been leaving here. It means a lot, and I think hearing it will help Martin and I keep the momentum up to launch TWiF 2.0 sooner than later. We definitely don't want the show to just end, it's just going to take a little time to figure out some logistics. Thanks for being fans and being awesome.
PEAS!

Thank god! That show was awful and way below the normal TWiT standards. I love Sarah, but Martin is totally juvenile and crude. Why does anyone think potty humor is funny? Sarah, you can do way better. this is the best thing that could have happened to you!!

January 22, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterya right

Whaat!!! Whaaat!! No WAy! Unacceptable!!! Illness?? Job??, Quality? When has that ever stood in your way? I can't stand it!! I am bereft and so forth… No more true or poo or tweet beat… no more Gibson bashing… no more licentious innuendo… no more alcoholic debauchery… My Friday afternoons are now sadly devoid of Satan spawn… I'll have to do something productive… or nap.

January 22, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterjmath

I am sad. Hope you two come back soon. Don't forget about us. :-(

RE the transportation issue, how about Martin coming over to your place? Don't you guys live close to each other?

Other than that, I join the others in hoping that the show is back on the air soon.. It's, well, fun.

January 22, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterailaG

I have no great ideas or wisdom but I do know one thing. Somehow Steve Gibson is to blame. TWIF out.

January 22, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterBrian

I hated TWiF in the beginning. It ended up as being one of my top 3 TWiT shows. I hope you both can make it happen again one day.
All the best for your full recovery, Sarah - you are an awesome person ;> (ok, both of you are but Sarah's better looking).

January 22, 2010 | Unregistered Commenternighthawk006

So sad to hear that my favorite TWIT show is gone. It's definitely going to leave a void in my week. Thanks Sarah and Martin for making me laugh this past year. Best of luck to you wherever your paths take you.

January 23, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterradioray

Sarah,

please say it isn't so!!! Your show is a great
relief for my All-things-tech addiction. I just started
watching you and Martin this summer, but you sky-rocketed
to the top of my podcast list. I hope the two
of you will be back very very soon!

I miss Tech TV. Life was simpler then.

January 23, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMike

TWIF WTF OMG!! Blasted!

January 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterRicky G.

While I'm happy to hear that Martin has found something, I'm quite sad to be losing TWIF - at least in the immediate future. It's been a highlight of my week. Best of luck to all - and hopefully schedules will be able align down the road to enable TWIF to come back!

January 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterCathy

Totally understandable Sarah!!! But what about changing the time that TWiF is recorded so Martin and you can still get together. Like on Saturdays after TWiG. I still like watching TWiF even though you guys are not at the cottage.

January 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJoe

Awe this is lame! I love TWiF even with oyu guys on webcams lol Maybe you need a third host who can be at the cottage?

January 26, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterShawnee

Sarah, Martin,

Now how I'm supposed to know what people are nattering about in Twitter? You two truly are Internet Superstars. Sure hope you'll be back, soon, or even soon-ish.

All the best,
Jaska

January 27, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJaska

Dang. I just read the news after missing my weekly dose of TWIF. I figured the podcast was maybe late this week so I only got around to finding out whats up. This bums me out. I've been a fan of you and Martin since TechTV (used to love seeing you on the cams even before you started presenting segments on air) I'm not able to see the show live and I'm not one to hang out on message boards, but I'm a loyal fan even if a quiet one. I understand not having the time with Martin's new gig but I really hope to see the show return in the near future. Thanks for great laughs and fun each week and take care!

January 27, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterDave M.

Grr. I want that New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc back Sarah, it was to celebrate 50 episodes of TWiF! The whole plan is ruined!

I hope you and Marty can sort stuff out. TWiF is a great show, but we all are haunted by the bane of Real Life!

January 27, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAaron

That's just sad... :-( Will miss TWIF, it made my day

January 28, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterLars

Well, take your time, guys. I happy that Marty has a job, and that your not dead, but if random crap is going to get in the way of podcasting for a bit, go right ahead and take some time. It's sort of like Diggnation for TWiT, and I would hate for that angle to be lost forever. So lie low, lick those wounds, and come back stronger the next time around.

January 28, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJoey

You guys do not seem to be committed to producing TWIF! i have been listening religiously since the first episode was available on TWIT, and you guy have missed numerous episodes, far more than any of the other podcasts on TWIT, hell, i dont think Leo has EVER skipped an episode of TWIT, you medical condition was totally a valid excuse, but now... your telling me you cant carve out an hour of your life a week to record a show... do it on the camode if you have too, jeez!

January 28, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterPaul

What? No Farewell show? Not even a note of explanation on the Twit site... Does this mean Steve Gibson has won? Ouch.

January 29, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterWinks

To prepare my fridge for the (imaginary) big cake, I imagined buying a second fridge designed specifically for big cakes. When I go to bed, I imagine my new fridge awaiting the arrival of the cake, smile, and glide to sleep like a white-chocolate canoe on a river of Riesling, with icing sugar snowing from the peppermint sky.

January 29, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterTroy McConaghy

Dear Sarah and Martin: It seems like I have to say "It's the End of An Era" more and more these days. I had become a nightly fan of Conan O'Brien's Tonight Show and now that's gone. I was one of the original fans of THIS WEEK IN FUN, although my viewing of the show live became a bit sporadic when they moved back the air time on Friday afternoons. Now TWIF is on hiatus. If it's not coming back, I want Sarah and Martin and Leo Laporte to know that TWIF had the most original, creative and entertaining programming ever on Internet broadcasting. "Tweet Beat"and "True or Poo" were absolute "must-sees." All good things must come to an end, they say, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

January 29, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterPat Casey

So now Leo hates you because you took a seizure?!! WTF!!?

January 30, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterbigfan

Leo may not hate them but he has been less than supportive. I don’t think that a video twif was ever in the constant replays running on twit (at least I never saw one). Further, Leo seems to fashion himself as a tech Alan Alda. Sarah and Martin’s only real attribute was that they were entertainers (read the sarcasm), something twit sorely lacks. They weren’t gay, weren’t super liberal or super green, just not Leo’s cupotea. When Leo spoke of the split, he grinned and laughed when he said “hiatus”. Good luck guys – time to move on.

Scew Martin! Come back to us!

January 30, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterKeatey

Awww... I'll miss both. Much love from your favorite TWiF theme song writer, Dan

January 30, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterDan Lueders

I really enjoyed listening to the podcast and hope you'll be back soon : )

January 31, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterCarol Gordon

I love TWIF but I am SO happy for Molzy and Martin that he got a job, especially here in the year of their wedding.

January 31, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterBrian

Damn, damn, damn! Sarah is literally my favorite person on the web (and that's a lot of choices, more so than other media) and I'm really going to miss her! Please come back soon. You'll continue your Current TV shows, right?!

February 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterScott Jacobs

SARAH PLEASE COME BACK SOON! i miss the show! ive been forced to listen to that "NSFW" which is good, but not as good as you guys :(

February 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterME!

I hope everything gets worked out soon! TWIF is my favorite show on the network, and it's too good to go away. I guess I can use the hiatus time to catch up on past episodes. I started listening around episode 30. You're the best, and I look forward to your imminent return :)

February 2, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAlvin

That sucks! I actually liked how casual the show was when you guys were doing at your homes instead of at the studio. Regardless of where you did the show though, I thought they were all a lot of fun to listen to. Hope you guys are able to figure something out so we can have our TWIF back!

And I wouldn't even have known about the TWIT network if it wasn't for you guys

February 3, 2010 | Unregistered Commentersloop1138

Both you and Conan are off the air but George Lopez still has a show. #crimes-against-humanity

February 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterKrystyn

Sarah and Martin I love your show dearly I've watched every episode since ep.1 I love the banter I love the jokes I love the weekly twist on news I even posted a comment in iTunes a while back asking if you could do another mini show half way through the week now I lost not only my hopes of that but the show alltogether..... I hope ya's find a way even to squeeze in a half hour show into your lives and atleast keep doing the show remotely. I know I speak for everyone saying there is now a void in our Friday/weekends without you guys. Come back now!!! Lol and keep on showing us that's there's more to life than kernel updates and defraggin hard drives.

TWIF FAN FOR LIFE!!

Darrell , Canada, PEI

February 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterDarrell

P.S Sarah I forgot to mention you guys are waaayy better than NSFW you guys could do a one minute show and still be more interesting than there whole show. Thanks again and hope to see you Guys back sooner than later
