Reality, Shattered: The Sequel

Theme song "Transformers, robots in the skiiiiiiiies" is actually "Transformers, robots in disguiiiiiiiise".

There are no words.

Ok, yes there are. They are FLYING robots. They are in THE SKIES, aren't they? Any stupid robot can don a costume, but how many robots do you know that can take to flight? My 20-years-strong version is clearly better. I will not accept reality today.

Well do you remember Johny Socko ( not sure on the spelling ) and his flying robot, now that was a funny show from the 70's or early 80's, I have never seen it replayed anywhere over the years.

Alas, in the movie they didn't fly - unless they were a flying machine when they were in 'disguise'. lol So who shattered your reality on this subject?

It has always been robot in disguise, though I can see how easy it would be to misinterpret this given the how many of the Transformer did in fact fly in the original cartoon series. I remember as a kid thinking this at first as well, but good thing I realized that this was not correct at a young age or I would feel the same way as you right now, what a slap in the face eh!

I thought that everyone KNEW those were the lyrics.. and now i feel sorry for you! Yesterday i had a similar thing happen via Digg: http://digg.com/movies/GOD_HELP_US_ALL_PIC

A seriously disturbing picture.

O.o Someone with a lisp must have taught you the song. It can be mistaken though.

I've always thought it said, "Transformers, more than meets the eyes."

Jane - it does say that first (well, "eye" and not "eyes"), then repeats "Transformers..." and then "robots in disguise."

Sarah - take it from a 37-year-old who grew up on the _original_ TV cartoon (not the lame knock-offs that you might have seen when you were a pre-teen and later). At the time, it was a novelty that a robot could "disguise" itself by transforming into a vehicle. Contrary to your thoughts, robots that could fly "in the skies" wasn't as novel a concept as the transformation ability.

Sarah is 37? Well that's ok

actually, in the early episodes both autobots and decepticons could fly. somehow in later episodes the autobots stopped flying. so it was only decepticons in the skies.

my question was always whether it was "more THAT meets the eye" or "more THAN meets the eye"...and neither really make sense.

If you had been a boy in the eighties and said "robots in the skies" you would have been punched repeatedly. How could "in the skies" be better when so many were on the ground? Your position is illogical.

Also, Johnny Socko was fantabulous.

So did you think it was sung 'robots in da skies'?

Grasshopper...

The only robots who could fly were the Go-Bots. But they sucked ass and were a poor excuse for an 80's cartoon.

Transformers > Go-Bots.

NERD ALERT!

Usually, I'm with you...but I think this time, I knew it was robots in disguise. Perhaps it was because I was a boy and boys got it? I don't know.

I never did get an Optimus Prime for Christmas either...and I'm still pretty bitter about that.

Were you not made fun of as a kid for singing this? Because that would have solved this problem. Childhood embarrassment is the solution to everything.

That's awesome. I just showed my 4-year-old son an episode of the cartoon and that's exactly what he goes around singing. Transformers - Robots Flying in the Skies. You can't correct him, because in his mind, he's right.
