So my new apartment does this thing where if it’s lightly misting outside, I’m talking barely-there moisture, don’t even need an umbrella type of stuff, somehow a lot of that will find a drain of some sort on the roof and collect into a substantial water droplet and fall into a specific place on the wrought-iron gate outside my dining room window. The sound is like a frying pan hitting a copper gong at a frequency just slightly slower than the seconds ticking away on a clock.
I took this video to prove that I’m not exaggerating or going overboard in any way about this.
I probably have to move.

uncmarts- It IS an old building. Built in 1886 to be exact! I really love it, actually. But yeah. The water torture thing is just criminal.
How about buying one of those little umbrella hats and mount it to your banister? The sound would be muffled to a dull thunk rather than a gong. Much easier and cheaper than moving!
Similar to the last post, just tape a bit of waterproof material to the offending part of the railing it should dampen the sound
2 minutes to put a drip edge over that window... or better yet, at the roofline = problem solved and your continued sanity. Just tell your landlord that it looks like the window frame is rotting (if it isn't already, it probably will be soon). That will get him up there quick.
Wrap some fabric around that spot, if you cant ill come by and fix it someday...
Get a regular dishwashing sponge, cut it to the depth/width of the iron railing, tie it to the spot where the water drips. Peace will reign, when it rains, so to speak.
If the sponge is brightly colored wrap it in a bit of black fabric before putting it out there if it looks too bright.

It's all the prednisone's fault! Prednisone causes one to drift from euphoria, to crying, to frustration all in spans of minutes. When I was on that stuff I would have wanted to put my fist through the wall and then cry at the thought of the mess I would have created. But then I'd be so hungry (again due to the prednisone) I'd be preoccupied. This too shall pass... Try a microphone spit screen to deflect the big drop to smaller droplets which will not have the force to cause the noise when hitting the iron grating.
I'd put a novelty there, like how about one of those waterwheels that you see in some aquariums? Might even be possible to harvest enough energy to recharge a battery powered moo gizmo of some kind. Or woof or meow, or tweet, or.. you know, just fill in the blank. Or how about maybe putting a tiny little Bin Laden stuffed toy there?
Stop me. The possibilities are endless! There's one heck of an opportunity here!

I like the drip edge solution above. It just seems like too much work.
Two other solutions:
1. Find where the drop is originating and divert the water away from the gate. May require someone climbing up to the point where the drop starts.
2. Place something above the gate (such as a drip edge) to "catch" the drop before it hits the gate, preferably 10” above the window so you don't hear it.
Anything, even a sponge too close to the window may continue to make a sound. I had this problem once. I fixed it by finding where the water was accumulating and gluing a wood stick about .5" x 2" so the drop would find its way to the end of the stick and drop just an inch away from the ledge outside the sliding glass door in my bedroom. Of course you have to do this on a dry day so the glue sticks. The landlord never noticed it.
Chinese water torture! P.S. I'd be a little more worried about the random bovine sounds!! Maybe Kevin can loan ya a fat stack of cash to tape to the metal to absorb the water.

Rent a plasma cutter and whack it right off.
On a day thats dry - just take some velcro - furry side up - put it where the drip hits on the fence.... it will shut it up...
Or if you are really brave its gutter cleaning time... usually is the cause...

You could also super-glue a cotton ball right where it's hitting. I did that in my last apartment with the window sill and couldn't hear it at all afterwards :)
