My Earliest Memory

When I was 2 years old, both of my parents worked full-time and during business hours I went to daycare. It was a place in Santa Cruz called TAM School, where "TAM" stood for Teen Age Mothers, even though my mom was 33 years old. Who knows.

I remember laying on a cot in a dark room with a bunch of other kids, not sleeping. Not upset, just laying there with my eyes open. Some time later, my mom comes to pick me up and as we're getting my things together to go home, the person in charge says to her, "Sarah didn't take a nap today." To which my mom replies with a sigh, "Oh, well, that's ok."

And then under her breath, "Shit."

This was one random blog. I love it! Man it's weird what we pick up on and don't understand til later.

Hehehe... nice. I think my earliest memory other than just remembering my bedroom is playing doctor with my boy-friend Kristian.

My first memory was around 3.5 years while my mother was pregnant with my little sister. My older sister and I would press our cheeks and hands to her belly in an effort to determine the sex of the baby. We would argue about whether it was a boy or girl based on our scientific findings.

I was two years olf, walking around the house, and wandered into my parents room. Near their dresser, I saw an electric outlet. I then realized two things pretty quickly: The flathead screwdriver I saw in the living room appeared to be designed to fit inside one of those socket holes, and the same screwdriver was a perfect tool to remove the plastic child-protection cover they had placed there! It all made sense! At least it did until my arm flew back in severe pain and I cried out for Mom...

You're better than me! The earliest I can remember is about 4. It was 1960 and I was living in a trailer as my father was attending college in Blacksburg, Va. It was my Dad, Mom, my older brother and me. My younger brother was born in a near by town during that time. We moved away and ended back in Roanoke, Va (28 mi. away from Blacksburg), so I went to school at Va. Tech, just like my Dad, and the same place my daughter is currently attending. I guess it is the circle of life?

Funny I thought I was the only one who had random memories of my child hood.

The earliest I was about 4 years old and it must have been a weekend because my folks were still asleep. I remember walking out of my room into the hall way and a beam of light (sunrise) was passing threw the window and i could see a bunch of dust particles in it and it looked really cool and peaceful. I don't know why this has always stuck with me but its a great memory.

Mine is falling down the stairs when I was just over 2 years old. I remember the concrete floor coming at me and waking up in the hospital. I remember dreaming that clouds were falling from the sky, and that I didn't want to sleep in the crib because I wasn't a baby anymore.

My earliest memory was when I was a toddler but not sure of my age. I was running in the house, ran into the kitchen and ran into a bar stool with wooden slats for the seat. Just missed my left eye by less than an inch. I don't remember the trip to the hospital or any thing after the incident itself.

My earliest memory, was a time I was hiding from my mom in the closet, and when she stuck her head in the closet I slammed the door and broke her nose. I remember quite well, when she said, "Fucking son of a bitch my nose!"

Love your story, Petite!

I guess Quinn and Jordan are in that zone where they'll have their first memories any day now. Of course as a mom I want to finely script that first memory, so that it's something glorious: like picnicking on the beach at sunset or singing harmoniously while skipping through the daisies. Fresh as a summer day.

Judging from your story and the comments above, however, most likely it's going to be something that the kids consider shocking: like me swearing after dropping something heavy on my foot or what have you. I'll have to tread carefully I guess!

Cool post!

I think some of my earliest memories are (though I don't know my age exactly, but maybe between 3-6?):

1.) Getting to sleep in a drawer as a makeshift baby crib at my Granny's house2.) Running in a hotel room and falling on my face and everyone laughed and I was pissed.3.) My brother standing behind our couch, being an ass, and I threw a full huge cup of milk right at him (hitting him, of course).4.) In kindergarten, taking a wee in my chair.

The earliest thing I'm sure I actually remember (as opposed to thinking I might remember based on repeated family stories) is being being about 4, in the back seat of the car while my mom drove me to a nursery school play. I was going to be a butterfly and she had made my costume (she was an amazing seamstress), and it had taffeta wings and a sort of tutu, and the whole thing was really itchy. I remember telling her so and her telling me to sit still, it was only for a little while, and I could take it off after the play.

I remember being on stage, stretching my arms out on cue to display my lovely wings, and delivering my one line, brilliantly of course, and then there was applause and after that, I don't think you could have pried that outfit off me.

Weird, my earliest memory is very similar. At the age of 3 I remember being at a day care... it was called alpha house i think... anyways all i can remember is standing at a gate looking out into the street and wondering where my mom was and why she abandoned me. then some little blonde girl stood next to me and said "mommy!" And thats pretty much what my earliest memory is.

Wait... wow, thats depressing :(

Ms. Sarah,

After such a long time we here in Fort Worth, Texas have once again found both you and Jessica again after the TechTV vs. G4 CrapTV. Back in the day of ZDTV I and nearly 12 now non-existent Mom & Pop PC Shops petitioned 10,000 signatures to get the channel on our local cable provider.

Now family and friends can again enjoy practically the whole gang again on Revision. After finding are the revision podcast they are a weekly enjoyment and it's much like visiting an old friend. As for Papa Leo he has been on my Zune for many months but neglected to make mention of the multitudes of shows available on the Zune Marketplace.

As for your "Earliest Memory Post" I have only this to share with you!

Yours is incredibly early and so is mine. (I have a friend who can't remember being five or speaking Spanish fluently) When I told my mom about it she said it was the Easter before I turned two, which would have made me like 21 months or something. Basically, it started when my mom was carrying me out of a hotel/resort room right on a golf course and I was staring down looking at the landscaping wondering what was going on and then she put me down and I walked up to my grandpa (or my mom's step-dad, Papu) who had just shown up, or maybe got back from some golf. I also have a person with a blue or pink bunny suit glued to that place in my head but I don't know if I saw that 10 minutes or an hour later. The thing is, I can remember not being able to talk that much yet. I think because it was a chain memory, that's what made it possible. But I remember noticing that my mind was much more lit up than in the previous moments. Obviously, mine doesn't have a punchline. But I think I remember thinking to myself when I saw the rabbit,"It's cool. My dad and Papu could probably take that thing." My dad and Papu are excellent fighters according to me.

"best cure for hang over ": What vicsalloum said; however, I would add the first rule of knife-fighting - 'The best way not to get hurt, in a knife-fight, is not to get IN one!' - which brings me to, "chaser plus", one of the few products that I have had the pleasure to use & has worked--exactly--as advertised.

My first memory was also when I was two but it isn't a happy one. My dad had cancer and I remember him falling and knocking the tv over. Then him in the hospital getting weaker until he passed a few months before my third birthday. It has been almost 25 years and I have never forgot.

I remeber laying at the foot of my parents bed, I must've just turned three, and a cool breeze blew the curtains open and woke me up. The radio was on and they were playing the whole Let It Be album. It had just been released and back then, late at night , they usually would just play the top five albums with a few commercials in between. I still think of that night everytime I hear I,Me,Mine, that was the song playing when I woke up.

Earliest memory at age 3 years almost 2 months when I recall living on Martha's Vineyard when the Great Atlantic Hurricane of 1944 hit the island. I recall going out of the house and seeing boats washed up on land. I also recall seeing the island policeman on horseback. I remember going to a grocery store and my mother bought a block of oleo and orange powder. When we got back to the house she mixed the powder in by hand resulting in a yellow colored mass. Not too long after the hurricane we took a ship down to Newport News, Va where my father took a newspaper apprentice job.
