Hi

I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving. I spent a quiet evening at home with my mom. There was an empty chair next to us, though I felt his presence. I ate extra stuffing, just for him.

Today was an important day, yes. Thank you for all the feedback I've gotten so far. I'm sure most of you understand how difficult the past two months have been in my personal life, and I only ask that you keep that in mind when inquiring about my professional life.

Oh, and I guess I just can't say this enough... I don't post in comments. Ever. So if you see a comment from me, it's fake. I'd like to keep comments open on my blog, but in order to do that, I need a little respect. By respect, I mean users not posing as me.

Thanks.

PS- I saw "Ocean's 12" tonight. Review coming soon.

So I was listening to iTunes today and this song came on and I thought it described the downfall of a great show. Nothing against Sarah at all here just the downfall caused by mis-managment...

Artist: Norah JonesTitle: No Easy Way Down

Your toy balloon has sailedin the sky now,but now it must fall to the ground.now your sad eyes revealJust how badly you feel. There is no easy way down.

The view from the cliffsmust have been exciting, and up to the peaks, you were bound. Now you're stranded aloneand the past is unknownand there is no easy way down.

And now it isn't very easywhen you find yourself on your own.No it isn't very easywhen each boat you take,is one more mistake, there's no one to break, your fall,Lead you back home.

We all like to climbto the hieights of love dearwe're our fantasy world can be foundbut you must know in the endwhen it's time to decendthat there is no easy way down.

I know it isn't very easy, when you find yourself out on your own.No it isn't very easywhen each road you take,is one more mistake, there's no one to break, your fall, and lead you back home

We all like to climbto the heights of love dear, where our fantasy world can be foundbut you must know in the endwhen it's time to decendthat there is no easy way down.

If you had any integrity you would resign. The new show is awful, will spend the next six weeks loosing what remains of it's audience and you'll be associated with the train wreck. Both you and Kevin should get back to journalism, if that's what you're interested in. If you want to be on TV, get into somewhere more mainstream - this show and your role in it isn't going to take you anywhere. You still have some fame in the tech world, and could probably write your own ticket, but that credibility will fade real fast.

There's nothing worse than not knowing when to let go, and you're there right now.

Sarah,

You're a seasoned pro on TSS so I'm sure you can handle the pressure, but do these new guys have ANY idea what is involved in a LIVE BROADCAST? Until today, I don't think they have ever had any live experience. Things need to be precise or able to iron over with the blink of an eye. Perhaps they could get some tips from Jay Leno.

I'm not as closed minded as most on here, so I haven't given up on the show just yet. I'm hoping the new hosts (and the new directors guiding all of you) can somehow aquire more discipline when doing a live broadcast.
November 30, 2004 | Unregistered Commenternashvillan
I did get to see it.

I thought it was good, everyone STILL moaning and STILL causing all this drama and, like the idiots spamming the IRC board, all imature idiots. Get over it. I miss Pat and Leo as well but move on already or go away. Pick one.

I'm not going to go away. I'll stay right here thanks. It's my right as a consumer. TSS sucks and we need to let the people who produce the show know that. Sorry about the sad things that sarah is going through, but I've had my share of hard times as well. What makes her gods gift to technology, so that we should treat her with respect at all times?

I have to agree with those that said the show was not very good. It is TV and Kevin P. has a face for radio (not trying to be mean, it is a visual medium). The one call was lame, we have heard about Pricewatch about 50 times on the show. Kevin R's interview was good. It seemed really flat without an audience. I think a small audience would be a good compromise. Unless drastically improved, the show can't possibly survive. I think Kevin R. is one sharp guy and will do much better somewhere else. You two obviously did a much better job negotiating your contracts and had protections the others did not. I wish you both the very best in the future.

Jim ohara.. (who uses a fake email to post...)

I think your comments for sarah are absolutley out of line. You got to know they are in a contract, a very one-sided, litigous contract. Give the girla litle cred for keeping cool and calm during this time. I agree wholeheartedly that the the show is unwatchable, but if they act out of line, they can be held for breach of contract, and as you can tell G4 is not afraid of hurting peoples feelings and sue thier ass to poverty. They have to be let go on G4 terms, not by quiting, doing something stupid... even if its how they really feel. If you have never had a job you were not happy in, congrats, but most people have to do some grunt work before they get to a place of comfort....

What a lot of nasty comments. Sarah, I'm sure you don't take any of them personally - and you shouldn't. No matter what you choose, you will always find someone who will disagree or disapprove. It sure as hell isn't your responsibility to please others. Just keep on doing what you need to do for yourself. And smile! :-)

To do a "tech" show I think you have to enjoy the material of "tech". Neither host seemed to be comfortable nor interested in the material and seemed to be denigrating it to mask their ignorance.

Sarah, I wish you and Kevin a better future. As was suggested earlier, see if you can get some advice from someone you respect that has some years under their belt.

I really hope this show becomes Ozzie-fied....... (a.k.a. going down under).

Not to hate on you Sarah or Kevin, I just think you guys are better and deserve better. I really hope you've been keeping and eye on the job market.

Maybe you two should get out before it's too late.

I've never posted anything here until today...

It's really upsetting to me reading all of these awful remarks about TSS v.3. You may not like what's going on, but give it a rest, will ya? Sarah and the crew are crushingly aware of the situation.

I wish you all the best.

Sarah,

About the people ranting because you included your personal issues with professional ones, just really don't listen to them. You've lost a huge figure in your life, and all the stuff you've had to put up with at work just adds fuel to flames I'm guessing. Again, ignore them, some people are just insensitive.

I personally applaud you for keeping your head up during these past months. You're certainly something your loved ones can be proud of. Good for you. Keep your chin up girl, even at the bleakest hour there is always a rainbow after the storm.

Hey Sarah. I've only started watching TSS right before the big move, but my fiance (who got me addicted to the show) has been watching it for years. I think you, Kevin, Alex and Yoshi were great together. And I hope that maybe G4 will realize that and bring everyone back. But my main question is, when are you and Kevin going to get married? You guys would have such cute babies!
November 30, 2004 | Unregistered CommenterKimberly
the new hosts have no pop at all, they are bland like vanilla or faceless corporate rock.

the transparency of self deprecating humor trying to provide people with a hate kit came of as cheap damage conrol and no very funny. It was almost an insult to my intelligence.

krose still has good on screen chrisma and can pop but I can't see myself tunin in much longer for 1 live call and a 2 minute dark deal. I used to watch TSS daily and I've declined to the point where g4ttv is an afterthought channel.

get back to the bread and butter TSS. live calls helping people and catering to all levels of tech while making it all watchable and not alienating people. If it can b don in a faux basement, it can be done with a bigger budget, bigger cast, bigger set, bigger city, etc.
November 30, 2004 | Unregistered CommenterDK
I did not watch the 'premier' episode of the 'new' TSS. I have no interest in watching it. I gave G4 a chance when they merged, mainly because it was the choice of those involved who left not to go to LA. I thought they had finally found a good formula, adding Alex (who is a REALLY funny guy), and mixing in the larger studio audience.

This latest move just shows that G4 is not interested in being anything more than a gaming network. They consumed TechTV for the sole purpose of getting X-Play. I could give a rats ass about 24 hours of game programming.

The former incarnations of TSS were right on the money...more technical for a more savvy audience, better info, not just regurgitating the same "I just bought a digital camera and now what do I do" type of quetions.

Make no mistake about it...G4 is turning this show into crap so they can legitimize canning it altogether. Why do you think they put two hosts in place who have other roles at the network? No on-air talent to fire next time around.

Sarah...good luck to you and Kev. I hope you land somewhere that doesn't suck.

The new show wasn't great, but it was better than I've seen TSS be in a long time. I thought Kevin spitting on the new host was funnier than I've ever seen him. I just hope we get back into focusing on tech and not a bunch of lame off the cuff pee pee jokes that were never funny to begin with. Take more calls and have a hip studio audience. I mean if you can't bring back Leo and Patrick at the very least model the show after the original success.

I have to say that I started watching the screen savers when it first aired many years ago. It got me interested in computers and interested in the tech of computing. The show as it is now is, in the opinion of myself and other fans that I know, lame. It used to have the courage to go against the main stream, but now is afraid to have a life all its own. I actually started watching again recently when my cable company started carrying it thru G4TV. But now I am sorry that I actually suscribed to have the access. I will, like others, give it a week or two (unless it goes belly up before then) and if the show still has no appeal, I will cancel my access. The new Kevin has less tech knowledge than I do, and Chi-Lan is just not right to host her own show right now. She has a good personality, but she is lost. You know, TSS made TechTV. The mothers at G4 have no idea what they are doing. Good luck, you will def need it.

I know there are quite a few negative reactions to what's been happening with TSS. Change is rarely greeted with open arms. And loss of any form is rarely enjoyable.

With that said, I'm keeping an open mind about the revamped TSS. For some reason my Tivo didn't grab yesterday's show, so I'll have to catch the rerun I set it to record when I get home tonight.

If the first few shows don't catch me, I'm not going to freak. It takes time to adjust to big changes. TSS has been a great show and I'm willing to give it sometime to make it through these difficult times. I'm certainly sorry to see certain people, go, but I look forward to continuing to see the work of Sarah and Kevin in their new capacities on the show.

Take care!

I think what sarah meant when she said consider her personal life when inquiring into her professional life is, dont harrass her about what you feel is wrong with TSS. Anyways, I dont think ive posted on here yet but ive been reading for a few weeks now. Sounds like a good Thanksgiving though. Hope all is well and it is good to still see you on TSS. Peace.

I'm sorry that you prefer not to read criticisms of the new format but the show was fine at it is, though I also miss Leo & Pat but the network didn't give Alex a chance and from what I've been reading from the Blogs and other sites, that was totallly uncool.

With that said, I'll wish you and Mr. Rose all the best but I think the show is terrible now. If that segment in which Mr. Pereira was met by hostility by the crew was meant to be funny, it sure wasn't and neither was that segment in which KR spat on his face. And today, I just didn't bother watching, tuning in instead to watch CNN or the West Wing Rerun on Bravo.

I thought my Tivo had crapped out on me and I was going to have to shell out more money. That was until I overrode the Season Pass and realized that the intuitive thinking in Tivo knew that the new Screen Savers wasn't worth recording anymore.

TSS has not been any good since Leo left. And it keeps getting worse. I am sorry Sarah, but you and your so called boyfriend act to childish on the show. Alex was terrible. The whole show needs to grow up and get back to computers and stay away from stuff like home brewing beer!

Just want to say Kevin is really blessed to have you in his life as my wife and I are to. I just felt like saying something nice to you today. I know it's hard with your dad and all. I'm 37 and it's been 11yrs past with my mother. All I can say is enjoy every moment you can with your mother, because life is way to short. I know you have a very busy professional life. i dont think i need to say we the fans miss the tech, but i just did.i dont watch tss for movie reviews and, no offense to you, it seems lame that they've got you doing that now. i loved the download of the day, i use many of them on my computer. the games and movies fixation, plus the around three celebrity guests an episode, appears to make this into a variety show. i'll give the show a chance, but only because i used to love it for so long. i can't see this show winning new fans (at least not the type you'd want).willing to wait, but longing for tech,DaNieL

I am not going to dump on the show, thats already been taken care of. I have been watching TSS since day 1, when it was just Kate and Leo. Does anyone remember those days? Do you remember running twin voodoo cards in SLI mode? I learned that on TSS. I am not saying the shows sucks, I am saying I have watched it all these years to learn tech tricks and tips!! Every show is about gaming and while I am also a gamer I want tech. Frankly there are better places for game reviews than some of the hacks on G4. TSS hosts used to seem like members of the family. No disrespect to Sarah is intended, people produce what they are told to. I just wish the brass of G4 would pop in an old tape of TSS and get a clue, if not, let the show rest in peace and give it a new name for it's new direction. Ziff Davis should get all the blame, they sold the network and it's soul with it. Kudos and affection to Kevin and Sarah, you guys truly are the last of what was........

RE: (TUE) 30 NOV 2004's show.

*O*-*M*-*G* ... {deep, soulful, sigh} ... [:|

Highpoint: KevinR's quick-witted interview with Mr. Mitnick.

Middlepoint: WiFi Paint - actually, not a bad idea for low/middle budgeted businesses or professionals who can't/won't take any physical measures to protect their living/working spaces from electronic intrusion.

Lowpoint: New Hosts' comments that elicited a, "Not Comfortable", from you.

I'll continue to watch, now that I'm going back to a Deep Nights shift, at work, a week from now, so interacting, live, via IRC, is 'doable', again - AND - because I got a bit of 'water-cooler info' to bandy about with my cubemate, tomorrow.

Of course, I'd *still* like to see/hear you delivering, "The Tech News", at the beginning of the show!

Bottomline: IF the 'two of you' are able to reinstate a--genuine--breath of no-nonsense 'techness' back into the show, by staying focused on what made TSS so very 'sticky', in the past, it just might be possible to keep the - original - concept from slipping away.

I'll be keeping ALL of my paired extremities crossed!

'Nuff Said, for the nonce, methinks.

I still think the show is fine. I agree with the above comments you people just bitch and moan about everything.

On that note I have to say I am upset for once. Kevin P. made a pretty big mistake in his review of the Nintendo DS. I felt it was an important mistake, I emailed TSS webform about it, thinking any real journalist would have to fix his mistake right? I mean, come on Nintnedo is an advertiser with the show....and Kevin said something flat out false but anyway...

Sure enough, just like everytime I've tried to call or email or input ANYTHING into the show, I can't get my piece said and obviously no one cares what I think. Not that that comes as a suprise but it still pisses me off. I mean, I've been watching for years, even now when it seems like hardly no one is still watching. I have been a devoted fan but what's the fucking point when I can't even have feedback to the show matter. If they don't care what a true fan thinks or notices then why care at all? And I mean, come on, the questions you guys pick lately, still retarded things like "I want a video card, what sites have video cards?" oh come on give me a break. ever hear of google? what a basic crap question is that.

Well, I'm through with it, I'm not through watching I will watch as long as the show exists but I'm tired of feeling like all I would ever do is bug sarah if I emailed her and even if I did I wouldn't get a little help setting the record straight, and I'm tired of hearing daily "call us, write us, chat with us, TALK TO US, when I keep fucking trying but TSS won't let me. I'm tired of things like Dipshit up above cloning my name to do an obvious spam attack on me here and mostly I'm tired of the constant bitching about people that will NEVER be happy with the show anyway.

Sarah sorry to take up so much of your blog you won't have to worry about that and REALLY sorry that the show I love that claims to care what its fans have to say could really care less over the course of 5 devoted years of watching.

Maybe one day I'll need to know 'how do I tie my shoe?' and the question fielders will deem it worthy but until then...

and for the record, what kevin P. got wrong, the Nintendo DS uses the bottom screen for an analog touch screen for more precise control in mario 64 and Metroid. This is easily the BEST thing about the touch screen. Kevin FLAT OUT said something like 'Mario 64 is awkward with the D-pad and then said something even to the extent of that was the ONLY way you could play it. However there are 3 different ways to play it, just like most the games we are seeing. Of course Kevin just trashed the thing and said it pretty much sucked right now... I just had a problem with it because all online people are misrepresenting the DS and what it can do. I hated to see Kevin do the same and it made me wonder if he even played with the thing really.

I figured any show with journalistic integrity would have corrected that, especially with the Nintendo being an advertiser but I guess I was wrong... that precious 30 seconds couldn't be found on todays show but they had time to show us the glow orb or whatever?
November 30, 2004 | Unregistered CommenterJohn-Paul
Does anyone have a copy of the clip where Kevin Rose spits on Kevin P. It was the only good thing on the 1st program and the 2d was so bad that I couldn’t watch. Till then I guess I need to Google on how to call 911. Am I wrong or did it seem that Kevin Rose had to come to the rescue of the game boys and girls and is Sarah showing more clevage?

Dear Miss Sarah; This might sound mean at first, but since you and Kevin are under contract and the only way to get away from G4 is to get fired, I hope you two get fired so you two can move away from that turkey of a show! Like everyone who posts here, I loved TSS, but with all the G4 influence to push games and minimize real technology, the show is sinking - fast! Show 2 of the new TSS 3.0 sucked so bad, I fast forwarded through just about the whole show (show 1 was spent just getting it's sea-legs, so I just wrote that one off). I'll try to keep watching through the week, but if it doesn't improve by adding real technology, I'll pull the plug (of course I'll keep your RSS link monitored to stay current).

all my best
