9 days till the Matrix.

Or....technically 8 days cause it comes out at 10 pm on the 14th. I will be walking the streets of San Francisco with a camera that night, looking for the biggest Matrix fans around and showing you the results the next day. Then, after proving my Matrix faith, I will make all who come before me to call me Trinity (that hasn't caught on yet around the office. I'm not sure what the problem is).

I highly suggest you check out my TSS article for the Animatrix links. A really great way to get some background on the Matrix plot. Seriously, that stuff is far out! And when I say far out, I don't know if it's good or bad. Anime is weird. It makes me feel weird. I like it because it's clever and creative and very sci-fi chic, but something creeps me out about the big eyes and unhuman-like movements and almost beautiful violence. I have a lot of friends who LOOOOOVE anime. I want to love anime too. But then Seinfeld reruns come on.

I'll definitely be posting some pics making this here blog a lovely spot to stop and smell the roses for awhile, but please don't hesitate to comment with ideas as well. After all, the blog is really not a self-serving kind of thing as much as a mechanism of sharing.

Something about that last sentence made me laugh.

Oh, one more thing before I go... Studio B is really cold when they turn the lights out, and I'm the only one here and everybody's gone and things keep making funny noises and I'm pretty sure that little girl from The Ring is going to get me.

Outti 5000....

PS- Don't forget to hug your pets! :)

I hug my doby everyday. Whether I want to or not. She forces the issue constantly.

Ought-oh. Must dodge another tornado now! Eck!J

wow...that's weird...you're bugging out about anime and then mentioning the freaky Ring chick, and Ring was originally a Japanese movie. (insert spooky music here)

When you're out fan-trolling, make sure you creep up on people, put the camera right to their heads, and say "Dodge This." That'll get 'em calling you Trinity...or calling the cops, but definitely one of the two...

Ok I hugged Hazel the Wonder Cat... the got pissed... typical day in my life.. :)

So. That little chicky from the ring scared the snoz outta me. Almost. Not really. I just wanted to beat her little head in. Is that violent? oops..

I hugged my cat. He shed fur all over me. Annoying 'lil guy.

I'll take Seinfeld over Anime any day.

Matrix rules (movie, not car). Anyway, keep up all the great posts, Trinity!

I was running my webcam as a countdown to The Matrix. 8 DAYS! 8 DAYS! 8 DAYS!

Anyway...ideas. Maybe a slane behind the scenes of TSS photos once a week? Should pop your webcam link in here as well.

:-) Cheers! Monday is over and my house is still standing!

Hi Trinity!

Saw the Matrix downloads. Anime is creepy for sure! After a while, you forget you are watching a cartoon....I think that is the fact that gives it the creepy edge.

Keep up the great blogging! By the way, one tip...have your comments show in order of oldest to newest going down the page, not reverse like it is now.

You're so fun. And goofy. I need to move to San Fran and make some new friends.

You're already more active at this than Morgan. :)

I'm on of those people that's going to wait out the rush before I go see the Matrix. I've almost killed myself now trying to get into first showings of Two Towers and X-2, and I need a break from Sequel Mania.

As for Anime: I watch it, but it's not something that I could carry much of a conversation about. I own Akira and I plan to buy Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, but that's pretty much the beginning and end of it for me for now.

Take care!

Well I did hug my dogs today (two chocolate labs) they're always up on the couch (where they aren't supposed to be)

As for the matrix, I plan on waiting... it will kill me but i don't feel like fighting the crowds

Oh and The Ring is one of about three scary movies that actually scared me..

I agree with speedfreak, you're already posting more than morgan... but hey maybe her new show is taking up alot of time...

Again, why am I here?

"The Matrix is everywhere. It is all around us. Even now in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window. Or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work. When you go to Church. When you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth."

Trinity:

"THE Trinity? You hacked the IRS d-base. I always thought you were a guy."

Sarah: you are the ultimate Screensavers cubecam person and have been since day 1. Great to be able to see you at work every day.

Is that Jessica in the cube behind you?

SARAH RULES!

The new colors are nice, but the on the right side of the page is going wonky in mozilla...the calendar starts up in the light green header area. good stuff though!

I hugged my cats today, but they're still meowing at me and hissing at each other. I'll stick to the dog instead, he's somewhat more sane.

Working from home has its perks...but the drawbacks are that I can't talk to any real person or have a goofy office hoe down. But Sarah, having you on my desktop makes me feel like I have someone right here, thanks! Now for audio! Where is Morgan's Cam?Jeeeeeez I am losing my mind!!! I give hugs Daily to my Saint Bernard, Yellow Lab, my fat cat, my yellow tang, and my porcupine. Oh and don't forget the new addition, the long haired dachsund terrier. I don't think that is even a real dog. Anyways, I will be here, talking to my dogs. THE MATRIX HAS ME.

I'm really enjoying the Matrix color scheme. And your feature on TSS was great, though, I kinda wish you'd mentioned some of the Matrix screensavers out there. If you really want to immerse yourself in that world, you could do worse than Matrix code running down your computer screen...

Great job with the website.

Lee

P.S. I see your point about anime. To be honest, the only anime that really creeps me out is "Hamtaro."
May 8, 2003 | Unregistered CommenterLee
I think a freckle motif would be cool. Yeah. I have no pets, only wasted hugs. :^)
May 8, 2003 | Unregistered CommenterJohn P
Just remember without anime, there would be no Matrix. The Wachowski brothers whole infulence for the Matrix came from such movies as Akria and Ghost in the Shell. When you see the effects in the movie, they strive for that balance between beauty and violence that are seen in anime. They admitted it themselves and you can see it in the first movie, there are several scenes that pay homage to different anime movies. Even the "bullet time" effect reminds me of the movie Akria.

If you don't beleive me just look at the "legendary" series Cowboy Bebop, this is anime in its finest form, the episode "Ballad of fallen angels" is what anime is all about!
May 9, 2003 | Unregistered Commenteranthony
Sorry, I can't stand Seinfeld. The show or the comedian.

Anime is more about a style and nuance. The characters are as dynamic as regular people. Think of as real-life in an alternate dimension. Good anime pulls you in, sets a mood and takes you along for the ride. They routinely emphasize human features, such as the large eyes. The eyes are the mirror to the soul.

On inspiration for special effects in The Matrix and later films, John Gaeta is a huge anime fan. He said in a great Wired article (May 2003) that the next flick he does will be a combination of Akira (anime), Busby Berkeley, and Apocalypse Now. Oh, number 2 on his list of "The 10 movies that rocked my world" is Metropolis (anime & original).

http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/11.05/matrix2.html

On a 'this has little to do with the topic' side note, Keanu Reeves as a sign of his appreciation for making him look good in the new film, bought each of his twelve stunt trainers a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle. His credit card bill was about $200,000. Nice.

Enjoy the movie.

There's no doubt that a lot of influence for the Matrix came from anime, but to credit the genre with all of the influence is a bit hyperbolic. Several schools of philosophy and religion, old kung fu movies, and even good ol' fashioned American comic books all play a healthy role. The Matrix is a massive amalgamation of some of the coolest esoteric stuff from across the world and throughout history, mixed in with modern aesthetics and notions, and presented beautifully in a manner that even those who are - often times through no fault of their own - ignornant of one or more of the "pillars" of the Matrix, can enjoy and be touched by.

Plus, Carrie-Anne Moss is hot in PVC. :)
